To be honest, the only real reasons why they've stopped updating X and Y are because Omega ruby and Alpha Saphire will generate more sales from the use of the pokebank. Why have a full prequels, when you can half-ass them, and the sequels will make you pay an arm and leg to continue where you left off?
It's pretty obvious Nintendo's looking for any cash anywhere they can at the moment, with them in the hole 450mil this year, and with Philips on their asses as well. Super smash bro's could even be a flop as well, if Iwata has his way with the content like he has been so far, the game will be doomed.

They're only added bug fix patches, there was never any plans to actually update the game with more content. Why are you saying the will be half assed when the game hasn't even been released yet. I don't quite understand. Are you being cynical? Also, isn't pokebank like only 6 dollars for a month. You only need to pay once for it. That isn't a lot of money in my opinion.
Philips will not be winning any money from nintendo pls.

Pokemon or brawl? I'm not familiar with the man but wikipedia says he oversaw pokemon firered, leafgreen remakes and brawl. He's had some involvement but this is Nintendo. They are very iterative and games like smash brothers (In my honest opinion) has only gotten better with every sequel. Pokemon on the other hand for the most part has been the same with more or less gimmicks every sequel. It has been a good game since red/green and will be a good game 10 years from now most likely.
Please explain what you mean though because I feel like I've missed your main point.

Pokémon X and Y were supposed to receive occasional updates content through Nintendo's Eshop as DLC, however, they went back on that, and did fixes instead of actually including stuff such as events, or even other regions. As a result you see, the new remakes will generate more subscriptions to the pokebank towards the purchases of pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. The hype of these new games will convince a lot of players to transfer all of their pokemon from X & Y, over to OR & AS. A lot of the content from X & Y is very restricting as well(Such as skill tutors), you can trade pokemon to X & Y, but not to any previous version other than the two new remakes.
Iwata is known for Nintendo's failure at this point. The nintendo staff, and shareholders have tried since the horrible sales of the Wii and WiiU to get him to resign, as he's digging the company into a deeper grave as the years pass by. As for the new Super Smash bro's game, a lot of content may or may not appear in game, due to Nintendo lashing out against the unofficial publication of the cutscenes from the game itself a year ago.
You have to see the bigger picture here, it's not all sunshine and daisies at Nintendo, they know that people will buy it if they hold stuff back previously.

I dunno I never expected them to have much free DLC to begin with, besides the promo stuff they started the game with.
I'm just glad they don't charge us any for those DLC unlike some other games, and think it's something to be grateful for.
While I don't know myself, I would think the main reason for the remakes is because of how in-demand it is. Honestly, from my experience with other game companies, Nintendo seems one of the least greedy, but I guess that opinion differs among people.

Fire emblem awakening's dlc costs 60$, the game itself is only 30$ now.
The dlc is great for sure, but it's so expensive....

What? When the hell did they say that? And the Wii was a big success! The success of the Wii and the DS is the reason why Nintendo has Billions in the bank, they can afford a few years of losses.

Nintendo is like GM in America
Japan will always bail it out if it loses too much money.

Nintendo loses money because they actually try innovating while everyone else does cookie cutter nonsense.
If this remake is in 3D like x and y. Well shit.
Here's my money nintendo. Just leave me be.
They may be innovating in terms of hardware, but goddamn are their games repetitive.

You know what my biggest complaint with Pokemon is?
The fact that Nintendo puts in side features and stuff (Amie, Contests, Pokemon Following you on the map, etc) and then never has them in future games.
The ones I wish Nintendo would keep in were secret bases (spent most of my 200+ hours playing Emerald using those things), Amie (but change it in some way that it actually matters later on/post game/multiplayer, without being broken like it is in single player), and Ball Capsules/An Option to have your Pokemon follow you because those were just fun. :V
