  There's ways around this of course. People can upgrade their illegitimate copy of Win7 to a legal copy of Win8 for $15.

  I never really noticed but I would say similar to windows 7 in disk footprint. Maybe even a bit bigger.
  If you're on a PC then disabling hibernation (in command line: "powercfg -h off") will free up space equal to your RAM, and moving the page file to another HDD. That should be done for any SSD anyways to maximize the storage and lifetime.
