Finally someone serious.
Says my stuff are up to date.
Just to be sure, check that you actually have the Intel ACHI driver installed through Device Manager. It should show up under something like Intel ____ SATA AHCI Controller. You want version 11.6.x. By default, systems use the Microsoft driver, which is fine in most cases, although I wonder if replacing it with the Intel one could perhaps help in your case.

You would need a pretty powerful magnet to actually do damage. Keep in mind the drive heads have a ridiculously powerful magnet right next to it.
I've never tested it myself, so I can't say.. but "pretty powerful" is awfully subjective. The electromagnetic coils inside drives are probably alligned in such a way that the field won't disrupt the platter, and is instead concentrated where it needs to be. It's also not constantly powered. The same cannot be said about applying a magnet perpendicularly to the surface of the platter. :|

So it would help?
No, it won't. In the best case, nothing will happen. In the worst case, you'll corrupt the data or damage the drive.
